Sandy Parus

Middle Tennessee Educational Therapy, Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner, Sandy Parus
Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner

Sandy Parus has been working in the area of education for the past sixteen years. She initially set her sights on the business world as she earned a Bachelor’s of Art degree in Journalism from Lewis University in Romeoville, IL. Being unfulfilled with a career in advertising, Sandy redirected her life’s work to becoming a teacher. She earned her teacher certification from Lewis University.

After teaching first grade for seven years, Sandy realized that she needed to gain a deeper expertise in the area of reading to reach all of her students. Therefore, she earned a Masters degree in Education as a reading specialist from Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, IL. Once Sandy earned her status as Reading Specialist, she left the classroom to work with struggling readers in small group settings. As Reading Specialist, Sandy encountered many students who were placed in interventions because they were second language learners. This challenge led Sandy to earn a second masters In Teaching English Language Learners from the American College of Education in Indianapolis, IN.

As Sandy continued to support struggling readers in the public school setting, she felt as if there was still something missing in her repertoire of teaching strategies. After completing a three day introductory workshop for the Wilson Reading System, things began to fall into place. Under the guidance of Wilson Trainers, Sandy earned her Level 1 Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner Certification and began employing Wilson techniques in both the public school and private tutoring settings. Currently, Middle Tennessee Educational Therapy provides Sandy with a springboard to impact struggling readers in a private, personalized setting.
